Notaries Public are specialist lawyers who prepare, authenticate and keep records of the due execution of legal documents, often for foreign countries.
The signature and seal of a Notary Public provides assurance to authorities and recipients that the relevant checks have been made and the document (the Notarial Act) has been properly completed and executed.
Notaries also arrange for documents to be Legalised by the affixing of an Apostille by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) and further Legalisation by a particular Embassy or Consulate if required.
Unlike a Solicitor, the primary duty of a Notary Public is not simply to the client but to the transaction and all those who rely on the Notary’s acts and certificates.
